Philippians 3:10… “[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His person more strongly and clearly], and that I may in the same way come to know the power from His resurrection [which it exerts over the believers]” (Amplified). The resurrection of Jesus Christ was the greatest victory of all time… Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4… “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (KJV). The words, “according to the Scriptures,” refer to the manner the prophets foretold… The prophets made the resurrection recognizable… Paul started off by saying… “By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain” (v. 2). Every believer must keep in his or her memory the gospel truths… and especially the resurrection truths… That memory will keep us… when we hurt… when we experience hardships…
The seven resurrection truth from the book of Romans:
1. Romans 1:3-4… “Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (KJV). The resurrection authenticated the work Jesus came to do. The resurrection of Jesus made it possible for us to become the sons of God… Galatians 4:4-7 teaches… that the Father sent Jesus to redeem sinners and to bring them into a place of sonship… to a place where we can call Him “Abba, Father.” Sonship means that we are heirs of God through Jesus Christ… The Spirit of holiness that was in Christ Jesus has come into our hearts…
2. Romans 4:24-25… “But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification” (KJV). Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The resurrection of Christ Jesus made it possible for us to be justified… i.e., declared righteous… Faith in the resurrection of Christ brings righteousness… These verses connect us to Abraham, who believed the word God gave him and it was counted to him as righteousness (vv. 17-25). Righteousness is always associated with faith… The words “justified” and “justification” refer to being pardoned or acquitted of sins. This is a positive act because we believed… The restored believer has a new relationship with the Father. We have access…
3. Romans 6:4-5, 9-11… “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection” (KJV). Romans 6:9-11, “Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The resurrection of Christ Jesus means that sin’s power over us has been broken… We are no longer servants to the things that kept us bound… The resurrection teaches that we can conquer the things that bring death… We can walk in newness of life as long as we are here on this earth. We live now as justified people… Grace now abounds… “Grace” refers to Divine favor… and the operational power of God which now works in our lives.
4. Romans 7:4-6… “Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter” (KJV). The resurrection of Christ Jesus joins us to God. There is a new power working in our lives, and that power produces fruits of righteousness. We no longer live by the laws of bondage. Think on this: we live and serve in newness of life… unto God… not unto bondage. We have new directives… new disciplines… new goals… and new purposes for our existence…
5. Romans 8:11… “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (KJV). The resurrection of Christ Jesus makes our physical bodies alive… here and now… on this earth… The resurrection made it possible for our bodies to be changed… healed from diseases… There is a day coming when we will have a new body, incorruptible (1 Corinthians 15:40-53). Don’t put your body down as worthless… it is the temple of the Holy Ghost (2 Corinthians 6:16).
6. Romans 8:34-39… “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (KJV). The resurrection of Christ Jesus gives us peace of mind… There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. The things Paul mentions can be overcome… We do not have to fear these things… Christ removes guilt and condemnation…
7. Romans 10:8-11… “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed” (KJV). The resurrection of Christ Jesus assures us of salvation… Salvation depends upon our confession that God raised Jesus from the dead. We must believe this with our heart, i.e., spirit… It is our spirit that touches God and it’s our spirit that is touched by God. It is important that we confess this… Our mouth relates what is in our spirit…
1 Corinthians 15:17 reads… “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins” (KJV). “And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless, and you are still under condemnation for your sins” (NLT).
Christ is risen… Proclaim it… Sing it… Shout it… He lives!
