Daniel 5:12… “Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel” (KJV). Daniel 6:3… “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him.”
Acts 28:22… “But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest” (KJV). Paul had just finished a long trip. It wasn’t an easy trip. On that trip, he faced rejection, storms, chains, shipwreck, snake bite, cold weather, and abuse. All through the hardships, he kept a good attitude. The leaders who came to meet him said, “We want to know how you put your thoughts together. We want to know your frame of mind. We want to know why you think and talk the way you do.” Paul had an excellent spirit, poise, and balance. So today, I want to know how you are in your attitude.
I want to talk to you about “the excellent spirit.” The Apostle Paul said to Timothy, “The Lord Jesus be with thy spirit” (2 Timothy 4:22, KJV). The word “excellent” means “of the finest quality, exceptionally good, extraordinary, awesome, cool”; that is, a good attitude. Today, a lot of the attitudes are cruel, evil-minded, full of hate, full of bitterness, full of jealousy, full of greed, or without compassion. Daniel was a young man who was taken captive by an invading army. There are two forces in life, two systems. One is good; the other is evil. Many young people allow the excitement of being young and free to cause them to forget the Lord. Solomon said, “Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But realize that you must account to God for everything that you do” (Ecclesiastes 11:9, NLT).
There are twelve things you can expect from God…
a) He listens to you.
b) He watches over you.
c) He forgives you when you make a mistake.
d) He guides you.
e) He gives you inner peace.
f) He gives you inner joy.
g) He gives you protection.
h) He gives you power to say “no” to evil.
i) He gives you healing in your mind and body.
j) He heals your hurts.
k) He is faithful to you. He will never let you down if you trust Him.
l) He gives you wisdom for living.
Having an excellent spirit in your life will increase the anointing (wisdom). Hebrews 1:9 teaches that because Jesus loved righteousness and hated iniquity, His anointing was greater than the anointing of others. Proverbs 22:11 teaches that those who love pureness of heart will have the anointing of wisdom and it will be seen by what they say. People of high rank will become their friends. Daniel had an excellent spirit. That commitment began with a choice that he made. Daniel had a plan. His plan included a daily conversation with God, daily reading a portion of Scripture, good friendships, a teachable spirit, and a winner’s mentality. What you become in life is not an “accident.” It is by choice.
