Matthew 6:25-34… “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (v. 33, KJV). This passage of Scripture deals with the essentials of life. What shall we seek first? Jesus says, “Seek first the kingdom of God,” and the essentials of life will be added to us. Many in this world seek other things first, and the essentials of life are subtracted from them. This is one of life’s biggest struggles. What shall we seek first? What we seek will eventually control us.
Many people have good plans and goals, and make mistakes in trying to achieve them. Mistakes can be forgiven. If, however, your goals are wrong, your plans are wrong, and you seek other things first, then all of life goes wrong with it. Jesus says, “Seek first the kingdom of God, and He will add the essentials to your life.”
All over the world, we see the devastating effects of poverty (sick bodies, starving people, stunted minds, and political upheavals, among others). Poverty is wrong for you, but riches alone won’t do the trick either. Riches may cover up man’s inward poverty, but rich people die eventually too. Inwardly their life is wrong, their outlook is wrong, their faces have no spiritual glow, and the light has gone out in their souls. Riches have choked them and have strangled their spirit. They sought not the kingdom of God, and that which they did seek has turned to poison. The things they sought without God now control them. Seeking the kingdom of God means that you have a choice. In seeking God, you will find inspiration, answers, purpose and freedom. You are changed. In seeking God, you will find yourself doing the will of God. You will get what you need, and you will give out according to your ability. You see, the kingdom of God is not concerned with supplying only. It is also concerned with giving.
