One of the greatest steps to receiving healing from Jesus is to know that the age of miracles is not past and that physical healing is part of His ministry today. The Lord wants you well; Satan wants you to suffer. Romans 1:16 tells us “the gospel . . . is the power of God unto salvation” (KJV). All that is required is simple faith in the word of God.
Luke 13:10-17… This passage of Scripture records the healing of a God-believing woman who would have been diagnosed as incurable in our day. She suffered pain, discomfort, and weakness for eighteen years. There are many today hurting just as much, and it’s time to be delivered from this problem. Jesus can break the power of longstanding sickness. Let’s take a brief and simple look at this miracle.
She was the daughter of Abraham and she was in the synagogue, a place of worship. Today we would say that she was a born-again Christian and faithfully attending church. She was not an irreligious person, yet she had a desperate need in her life.
She had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years. She was bowed down; she could not lift herself up to stand straight. She was one “whom Satan hath bound” (v. 16, KJV)… There was a spiritual power behind the bad curvature of her spine. Jesus said, “Satan has done this.” For eighteen years she was a captive of Satan and was powerless to set herself free.
Jesus saw her, called to her, and said to her, “Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity” (v. 12, KJV)… He had been teaching and faith had been building up within her. Jesus was full of mercy and compassion. Jesus called her and personally picked her out of the crowd. The word “healing” also means “to personally care for you and do what is needed to be done to make you well.” The word “loosed” means “to set free permanently.” Something good was going to happen to her.
Jesus laid hands on her… Laying on of hands is an impartation of power and confirmation. She felt the touch of His hands. So did the leper (Mark 1:40-42), so did the deaf man (Mark 7:32-35), so did the dead boy (Luke 7:11-16), so did the two blind men (Matthew 20:29-34), and so did Peter’s mother-in-law (Mark 1:29-31).
She was healed immediately and permanently and glorified God… It’s like Jesus said, ”You have been bound long enough. Thou art loosed.” She acted upon His word. An illness of eighteen years, controlled by the devil, does not glorify God. His glory came in the loosing. “Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (v. 16, KJV). Jesus is saying right now, “Isn’t it time that you were loosed?” Well, isn’t it? The gospel is the power of God when believed upon. Every miracle in the Bible and every promise is filled with His power. They are life and health to all who find them (Proverbs 4:22). Exodus 23:25-26… “I will take sickness away from the midst of thee . . . the number of thy days I will fulfill.” God wants to heal you. Believe it and serve Him. In Psalm 105:37, we are told that on Israel’s march to Canaan “there was not one feeble person among their tribes.” They believed Exodus 23:25-26 and Exodus 15:26. We are under grace, under a more excellent ministry, under a better covenant, and under better promises (Hebrews 8:6).
You can no longer hide under the faith-destroying phrase “if it be Thy will.” It is God’s will. See Hebrews 10:7 and John 6:38. Everything Jesus did during His earthly ministry was a direct revelation of God’s perfect will. And He has not changed.
