Psalm 34:4… “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (KJV).
David knew something about fear. He also knew a person can be delivered from it. It is not God’s will that His people be dominated by fear. The Christian is a member of the human race. He has also been made a member of the family of God, but continues to struggle against the frailties common to mankind, such as anxiety, sin, depression, sickness, sorrow, financial woes, and the biggest of them all, fear. Luke 21:26 tells us of “men’s hearts failing them for fear” (KJV).
Some folks fear failure… This could have a devastating effect on your work and vision.
Some folks fear responsibility… They fear to take charge and they fear to make decisions.
Some folks fear they will be harmed… This would include the fear of a thunderstorm or lightning, traveling by plane, car accidents, or work injuries.
Some folk fear the skeleton in their closet… i.e., fear of exposure of some sin or trespass that happened in the past.
Many fear the future and old age… They fear being dependent upon others, and they fear lack of pension upon retirement.
Many fear death… This includes fear in times of war, fear to go out at night, or fear of eternity.
Fear brings bondage (Hebrews 2:15). Fear undermines your health (Job 4:14). Fear breaks down your nervous system. It takes away your appetite and affects your digestive system. Fear robs you of your sleep (Job 4:13-15).
Fearful Christians are defeated Christians.
You can be free from fear. Know this, fear is not God’s will for you. God can deliver you from fear. Are you willing that God should do it (Psalm 27)? Trust God to deliver you (Psalm 34:4). Read again Psalm 23. Boldly say, “I will not fear” (Hebrews 13:5-6). Sing it (Isaiah 12)!
