Isaiah 21:11-12 reads, “The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come” (KJV). This is a powerful question: Watchmen, what enemies are out there that we need to be aware of? How many more uncertain prophecies are we facing this year? Watchmen, the prophets are giving unclear messages. Watchmen, darkness reigns, heresies abound, and new sins are making inroads within the nation. Watchmen, are you on the watchtower? Are you watching with prayer? Satan has designed evil plots against the church.
God’s prophets and preachers are ministers appointed to be watchmen. In time of peace and in time of war, it is our duty to enquire of the watchmen, “What of the night?” Are you watching for the counsel of God? What judgments are coming this year? What visions have you received? We are ready to receive the truth, but not your guesses.
The watchman’s answer is, “The morning cometh, and also the night.” In other words, new opportunities are upon us to repent and to turn away from our sins. God is looking for changes in the lifestyles of His people. God is giving us a morning of light, a space of time before He sends a night of judgment. God wants you to be prepared for the storm. The text above exhorts you that it is time to inquire. Be inquisitive, be repentant, be willing to change, and be willing to receive mercy. You have a choice. There is still hope. How serious are you to escape the pressures that are yet to come?
The time is short. Spend time with God through prayer.
