Courage To Stand In The Fire, Pt. 2

(Part 2 of 2)

The world wants to tighten the screws around those who are believers in Christ, but Peter gives us some good advice in 1 Peter 3:15-16. Be determined to stand. In Daniel 3:15-18, the three Hebrews responded to the threats of the king. They simply told the king, “Whether we live or die depends upon what the will of God is.” If God wants us to live, you can’t kill us. Don’t miss this truth. The three Hebrews stood their ground. They dared to be different and they were determined. We are living in a day when Christians are crumbling under pressure. It ought not to be that way.

Delivered to the flames… (Daniel 3:19-23). Their persecutors were so angry, they made the fire even hotter. The three Hebrews were bound in the clothes they were wearing and thrown into the furnace of fire. Those who threw them in died because of the heat. Keep in mind, just because you are a born-again Christian and living for Jesus does not mean that you have a guarantee you will avoid persecution and troubles. Just look at the many biblical examples (2 Corinthians 4:1-12, 11:23-33). If the world treated these men this way, why should you expect to be treated differently?

Delivered in the flames… (Daniel 3:24-25). The three Hebrews were spared in the fire. God didn’t keep them from the fire; he kept them through the fire. The king learned a lesson here on who really is God. Jesus was right there with them with protection; he was the fourth man in the fire. The Hebrews walked in the fire unbound and unburned. By the way, that fourth man is still alive and a very present help in the time of your trouble (Romans 8:31-39, Psalm 46).

Delivered after the flames… (Daniel 3:26-30). The king called them out of the fire and looked them over and discovered they were not even scorched. There was no smell of smoke upon them. When you go through your fire, the Lord goes with you and, in the end, He brings you out. When the king brought the Hebrews out, he made a proclamation honoring God and promoting the Hebrews. People who straddle the fence of compromise never win respect. You see, God delivered the Hebrews because of their God-honoring stand.

Christians, the fires of persecution are upon us; many will be facing those fires. God does not want you to back down. Some of you are in the fire right now. Jesus is there with you. Have you met Jesus there?
