Psalm 108:1-6… “O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations. For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth; That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me” (KJV).
Moffatt’s translation (v. 1) reads, “My heart is ready, O God, for song and melody.” What I see in these verses is that God wants us to sing during times of testing as well as during times of victory. God wants our praise in dark moments too. Let God see your joy. He will inhabit it. Let the devil see your joy. He will flee. Are you wrecked and ruined? Then sing in the midst of the wreckage, sing in the midst of your ruin, sing in the midst of your emotional struggles, and sing in the midst of your darkness. There is healing in worship. All too often we sing after the victory. Are you experiencing a hard test? Are you depressed about something? Then sing. God knows the way out.
Name Of Above All Names: Jesus
Acts 17:28… “For in him we live, and move, and have our being” (KJV). How can we preach a sermon without Jesus? How can we live without Jesus? He is the subject, the introduction, the body, and the conclusion of our message. So many preachers are not talking about Jesus in their sermons. Of all the names in the world, only one Name is more powerful than any other to change lives and to save souls. It is the name of Jesus. Today, there are more hurting people than ever. There are so many who are unable to handle life on their own. There are so many people trembling with fear; they fear the future. Help is in Jesus and in His name. Jesus is the only one who can walk them through hard times.
In Acts 4:7… Many high priests asked the apostles, “By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?” (KJV). Verse 10 says, “Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead” (NLT). In verse 12, Peter says, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” The man is Jesus, and the name is Jesus. It is Jesus that everyone needs. It is Jesus who can speak to your heart, can heal those who are hurting and broken-hearted, and can go with you through life. Jesus can deal with all the aspects of living. He can give you instruction on what to do. Jesus does not have to guess what you are struggling with. He already knows. If you are trying to pick any other deliverer but Jesus, you are heading for disaster. If you are looking for a deliverer Who can lift you up, Who can heal your bodies, Who can open blind eyes, and Who can increase your faith, choose Jesus. Jesus has a record that you can count on. The Jesus of the gospels still works today. Jesus is still the life changer. There is no other name. His name is Jesus.
