(Part 3 of 4)
Persecution… Fear of attack by words of accusation, blame, fear of not being accepted, fear of oppression… Not even these things can stop Jesus from reaching your spirit when you are going through anguish of heart.
Famine… Unfulfilled needs, unfulfilled desires, unfulfilled goals, lack of food (physical or spiritual)… Jesus is the everlasting Provider. These things cannot stop Jesus.
Nakedness… Lack of security, lack of covering, lack of protection… Our greatest security is in Christ. He provides the miracles. He provides the finances. Jesus will help us.
Peril… Dangers of every kind, exposure to hurts and injuries, crime, assault… Today, with all the security we have, evil still tries to penetrate your home. Wherever you are, Jesus is there to heal your anguish (Psalm 139).
Sword… Strife of tongues, controversy, accusations, verbal aggression, verbal vagrancy, war… These things cause a lot of anguish. Take all your abuses to the Lord and leave them there. Remember this, you may not be able to master another’s tongue, but you are the master of your ears (Ecclesiastes 7:21-22). Strife caused by others’ tongues can put a lot of anguish into your spirit, but it cannot stop the love of God from reaching you.
Death… This too puts anguish in your spirit. Death has a sting (1 Corinthians 15:55). People, through fear of death, can subject themselves to a life of bondage (Hebrews 2:15). The shadow of death falls upon everything that is alive. King David confessed, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4, KJV). The “rod” is Jesus and the “staff” is the Word. In near-death experiences, King David prophetically saw Christ and His Word. We face death every day. King David looked forward to the day when Jesus would break the power of death. Jesus holds the keys of life and death (Revelation 1:18). Even in the face of death, Jesus’ love still reaches you.
Life… This is the opposite of death. Many people dread tomorrow. Many people are afraid to face life. Life has its terror and anguish: “Will I make it through the day? Have I enough money to pay my obligations? Will I get laid off today?” God has enough peace and provision to cover all those questions.
Angels… The Bible refers to angels over 300 times. Angels are ministering spirits. Two-thirds of all the angels are on our side. Demons cannot hurt us, because we are redeemed. There is no demon that can stop the love of Christ from reaching you when demons are the cause of your anguish of heart. Psalm 91:11-12 teaches that angels guard us. Many believers think that the devil has more power to keep them down than Jesus has to keep them up. One of the gifts of the Spirit is the gift of discerning of spirits (1 Corinthians 12:10). The anointing of the Holy Spirit can teach us what is demonic and what is of the Him (1 John 2:27, 4:1-6).
Principalities… Satanic systems are referred to in Ephesians 6:12. These satanic systems prevent Christ from having first place in your life. They try to get you to follow their ways instead of the ways of Christ. Paul teaches in Colossians 2:15 that Christ spoiled (conquered, disarmed, triumphed over, gained the “spoil” from) these principalities and that He (Jesus) was given full dominion over them. There is no devilish system that can stop the love of Jesus from reaching your anguished heart. There is no earthly law or evil influence that can stop you from worshipping Jesus.
