Isaiah 9:13-16… “For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts. Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed” (KJV). Notice the words, “Him that smiteth them.” The word “smiteth” means “struck, stricken.” Has it been God Who has struck our nation? It matters a lot because there has been little repentance or turning to the Lord. There has been a lot of complaining, a lot of blaming, a lot of finger-pointing, a lot of corruption, and a lot of misuse of funds.
Lamentations 3:39-41… “Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens” (KJV). It seems that so many believers have chosen the path of least resistance. Sin is no big thing anymore, so why repent? Books abound that tell leaders the latest religious trends. They show what the people want rather than what the people really need.
Malachi 3:1-3 tells us in dramatic fashion that in the end times the Lord will purify the sons of Levi. The Levites were the priestly tribe that symbolized the eldership and pastoral ministries of today. Are we about to see this scripture fulfilled? The book of Malachi deals with corrupt leadership and the polluted church. A corrective action is coming, and with it, cleansing. The Lord is speaking to our nation. If you feel that you or your church have been “struck,” you can choose to be the victim or choose to learn from it by turning to the Lord. Be purified.
