Isaiah 11:2… “And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD” (KJV).
Obviously, this verse talks about Jesus, but this can be your experience too. The Holy Spirit wants to be the authority in your life all year long, and with that authority comes His care of you. Notice the kind of care the Spirit gives. He comes as “the spirit of wisdom” to help you deal wisely and to teach you to be wise in all your actions, since there are days that we are not sound in our decisions.
Then, He comes as “the Spirit of understanding.” He helps us distinguish truth from error and discern right from wrong. We see things and hear things, and a lot of it we are not sure of. The Spirit cares enough to help us to make right decisions. Then, He comes to us as “the Spirit of counsel.” He has good advice to give. He is a guiding Spirit. He gives us our plans and purposes. He steers us into correct paths. When the Holy Spirit is the authority in our lives, He cares enough to lead us with counsel just when we need it… and to be sure, we will need it.
Then He comes to us as “the Spirit of might,” or power and inner strength. He cares enough to make us strong in the inner man. He brings us faith, patience, courage, love, peace, and anointing. Then He comes to us as “the Spirit of knowledge.” He helps us to see. He is full of revelation and insight. He is “the Spirit of relationship”; a friend, one who walks with us. Finally, He comes to us as “the Spirit of fear.” We need to have awe and respect for the Father. He cares enough for us to see that we worship God. Yes, He cares enough to help us have a greater respect for both the Father and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
All of the above happens in us when the Holy Spirit is the authority in our lives and in our churches. May your prayer be, “Holy Spirit, be the authority in my life. Today, I humble myself and submit to your leadership.”
