Revelation 18:4-5… “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities” (KJV).
Earlier this year, I was meditating and praying. I was seeking the will of God; I rely heavily on the inspiration that comes by the Holy Spirit (Job 32:8). I heard in my spirit these words… “Come out of her, my people” (note the text above). One of the traps that preachers fall into is this: If the Holy Spirit doesn’t come in when they think He should, they go on and do things their own way. Ouch. In following up on the text that the Lord gave me out of the book of Revelation, my studies led to the Babylon spirit in the end times and the judgment that was coming upon the system that defies God. My spirit became heavy and my spirit groaned within me at the coming judgments.
The Babylon spirit throughout the centuries has always embedded itself in a world superpower. In the end times, is that superpower the USA? Daniel was told by the angel to “shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased” (Daniel 12:4, KJV). The Apostle John teaches that in the end times the antichrist spirit will abound and those with the anointing will be in a position “to know” (1 John 2:27). The word “knowledge” refers more to the knowledge that comes by the Spirit than to the secular knowledge of the world. The world’s knowledge is increasing also, especially in scientific matters. I do not know how much time is left before judgment; the Lord knows, but man does not. The Spirit said, “Come out of the system that defies God. You cannot live in a sin-laden system that is marked for judgment.” Many Christians are living in such a system.
The apostle John was shown that judgment is coming upon a system that has defiled and corrupted the whole earth. John is teaching, “Depart from sin or fall under the coming plagues.” The word “plague” means “a wound, a public calamity, a public affliction.” Our nation has experienced many calamities this year… scandals, floods, tornadoes, drought, rain, stock market falls, and many more. Judgment upon a nation does not mean that the nation will be annihilated. Job 12:13-25 from Moffatt’s translation reads in part, “He strips statesmen out of their wits . . . orators he renders speechless, aged men lose their judgment. . . . He will distract its [the nation’s] leading men and set them in a pathless waste astray.” As a preacher, my life is invested in the kingdom of God and not in calamity. That’s the mindset we all should have–faith, love, and hope, not fear and panic. In spite of world revivals, calamity is on the horizon.
To understand the Babylon spirit and why God has and will continue to judge her, we have to go back to Babylon’s beginnings (very briefly). Genesis 10:8-9 tells that Babylon’s birthing was in Ham’s son Cush through his son Nimrod. “He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD” (KJV). The name “Nimrod” means “rebel.”
The word “mighty” refers to the pre-flood giants whose spirits emerged in Nimrod. The words “before the Lord” mean “in defiance of the Lord.” Through Nimrod, the devil fixed the antichrist system in the world. A system founded upon rebellion and defiance of God. The word “Babel” means “the gate of God,” or the way to the seat of life. God had planned that all life was to be centered in His will, but Nimrod came against God’s will and formed an anti-God mentality.
The next thing we see about the Babylon system is seen in Genesis 11:1-9, the building of a tower with its “top with the heavens.” Here the occult signs were initiated. On top of rebellion, defiance was added through the occult. The occult was meant to be the means to get to God, but it really led them to demon gods and goddesses. Occult practices dominate the Babylon system. Using the occult leads to confusion. One of the reasons the New Age doctrine is growing is because people are reaching out to experience the supernatural. (They do not see the supernatural operating in Christians… stop and think about that for a minute.)
The next thing that we see of the Babylon spirit is in the book of Daniel (Daniel 1:3-8). There the anti-God spirit wanted to change the mind, soul, and thinking of Daniel and the three Hebrews. This is seen in the name changes. Babylon wants to take away from you the nature and character of God and replace it with a demonic mentality. Daniel and the three Hebrews purposed in their hearts that they would not defile themselves with the king’s meat. Because they overcame, there was no system that could prevent the revelation of God from coming to them. Daniel and the three Hebrews were overcomers, and because they overcame, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding came upon them, and they prospered and performed exploits. Babylon’s power lies in sin; it is a kingdom of sin.
