Luke 1:30-33… “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end” (KJV). The phrase, “He shall be great” keeps leaping up in my spirit for a message this month. The word “great” refers to He (Jesus) being distinguished, illustrious, great in power and in wisdom and dominion, and incontestably great. “He shall be great” is one of the most positive statements the angel Gabriel gave to Mary regarding Jesus. Is Jesus great in your life?
Titus 2:13… Jesus is the great God and Saviour… who gave Himself to redeem us. He is great in many ways, such as holiness, character, creation, skill, revelation, and purpose.
Ephesians 2:4-18… Jesus is great in love… In these verses there are seven things that the love of Jesus does. His great love quickens, saves by His grace, raises us, fashions us, brings us near, reconciles us to God, and gives us access to God. Only genuine love can do this.
Hebrews 2:3… Jesus brought a great salvation… His salvation brought us mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health. He saved the whole person.
Psalm 103:11… Jesus shows great mercy to those who fear Him. Mercy is simply God’s loving-kindness in action towards the people who hold Him in awe, who reverence Him, and who worship him.
Psalm 147… Jesus is great in power… incontestably great. There is no power that can subdue the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is His power that keeps you. This psalm shows the greatness of His power. Notice the words “healeth,” “bindeth,” “gathereth,” “telleth,” “lifteth,” “covereth,” “casteth,” “prepareth,” “giveth,” “filleth,” “sendeth,” “showeth.” I thought you might enjoy the power seen in the old English “eth’s”…
Isaiah 9:2… Jesus is the great light… to those who sit in darkness. He is the light that lights up the life of everyone that comes into His realm (John 1:9). No follower of Jesus needs to walk in the dark (John 8:12).
Isaiah 32:2… Jesus is the great rock in a weary land… There is weariness, sorrow, and distress all around us. Trials and temptations harass the best of people. When things go wrong, remember that Jesus is the great Rock. He will refresh your life.
Hebrews 13:20… Jesus is the great Shepherd… Sin, hell, death, disease, and the grave stood in the way to block Jesus before He came to the cross, but He put away sin, conquered hell and death, and arose from the grave. He healed diseases and still does. He is victorious still. As the great Shepherd, He cares for His sheep. Yes… He cares for you.
Psalm 48:1-2… Jesus is the great Lord who lives in a great city… The city is the church. We are part of something permanent, something big.
The angel said, “He shall be great.” Let Him be great in your life. Lift up your hands and worship Him. He is great.
