Luke 14:23-24… “So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. For none of those I invited first will get even the smallest taste of what I had prepared for them’” (NLT).
Some folks feel that if they were to leave an assembly or quit a job, God’s work would die. “I’m indispensable” is the attitude. When the invited ones failed to show up for the banquet, the master said, “Go out into the highways and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” God’s will is, “My house shall be filled.” God’s way is, “If My people do not respond, others will.” When Israel did not respond to the gospel message the Lord turned to the Gentiles. When Judas failed to become an apostle the Lord had Saul of Tarsus waiting. If the church at Ephesus grows lukewarm and leaves its first love, Jesus will remove its light (Revelation 2:5). It doesn’t embarrass the Lord one bit to shut down a church or a ministry if they are not doing the will of God. 1 Corinthians 9:27 tells us that there are some who become castaways (rejected, even if they had preached to others).
Paul writes in Galatians 2:6, “And the leaders of the church had nothing to add to what I was preaching. (By the way, their reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no favorites)” (NLT). Some folks feel they are indispensable and that a work will die without them. Think again. God always has someone else to fill your place if you are not doing the will of God. Don’t ever get the notion that you are incapable of being set aside. God’s purposes never fail. They will go on without you. So then, humble yourself before the Lord, repent of your self-important attitude, get into God’s purposes, and leave your own purposes behind. Paul writes in Romans 12:3, “As God’s messenger I give each of you this warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you” (TLB).
