God’s Promise To His Son

Psalm 2:7-8… “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession” (NKJV).

God made this promise to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is important for every believer to know this. There is no plot of ground where the authority, the power, and the gospel of the Kingdom cannot be known. Paul confirms this in Acts 13:32-34 and adds, “I will give you the sure mercies of David” (v. 34, KJV). Hebrews 5:5 confirms this as well. Mercy is one of the powers of Christ’s kingdom. The dimensions of Christ’s kingdom are founded in the Davidic covenant and in the resurrection of Christ (2 Samuel 7:11-16). The kingdom of Christ is a kingdom filled with mercy. The world is crying for the mercy of Christ’s kingdom. When hurting people recognized that Jesus was the son of David, they received Christ’s attention.

Matthew 15:22-28… When the woman of Canaan cried, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David!” (v. 22, KJV), Jesus saw her faith, and her daughter was made whole. The women of Canaan suffered a lot. They were pushed down, degraded, made to feel like dirt, and trampled on. Women today are crying out for mercy too. In Matthew 9:27, two blind men found healing for their eyes when they cried out to Jesus saying, “Thou son of David, have mercy on us.” Jesus responded and the men were healed. In Matthew 20:30-31, two other blind men cried out to Jesus as the son of David. The blind men received no encouragement from the crowd. The people rebuked them, but Jesus heard their cry and healed them. Mark 10:46-52 tells the story of blind Bartimaeus. He too, cried out to Jesus the son of David. He was a beggar. His blindness robbed him of self-esteem, but he embraced Jesus as the son of David and the mercy connected with His kingdom, and was healed.

Psalm 6:4 records a prayer, “Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake” (KJV). Your life can change too when you discover that the Lord is merciful and faithful to the covenant.
