Stretch Your Faith A Little

Genesis 12:1-2… “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing” (KJV).

Jesus knew that when you want something you have never had, you have to do something you have never done. Everything seems difficult at first. Life starts with difficulties. When you took your first step, you fell. It was difficult, but you got up and tried to walk again. Thousands do not succeed in life because they fail to make changes. They refuse to change jobs, they refuse to sell things and move to another city or state, they refuse to accept new friendships, so they stay in their comfort zones. Others move up the ladder of happiness because they were willing to endure a little discomfort in order to experience a fresh level of life.

Peter wanted to walk on water, and Jesus gave Peter something to do that he hadn’t done before. “Come,” Jesus said, and Peter walked on the water to where Jesus was (Matthew 14:29). Jesus gave people something to do, and it was always something they hadn’t done before. The Lord told Joshua to have the Israelites march around Jericho seven days in a row and then seven times on the seventh day (Joshua 6). The Lord said through the prophet Elisha, “[Tell Naaman], Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean” (2 Kings 5:10, ESV). Ruth left her home in Moab to be with Naomi, and she met Boaz, who changed her life forever (Ruth 1-4). The Lord used Elijah to stretch the faith of a widow who was down to her last meal. “First make me a little cake of [bread] and bring it to me” (1 Kings 17:13). She was motivated to do something in a time of famine that she hadn’t done before, and she saw miracles come to pass–her famine disappeared.

Stretch your faith, fellow saints. Jesus motivates people to do things they have never done before in order to create things they never had. Christians, move out of your comfort zone. If you want to achieve something you have never had, you must do something that you have never done before.
