Psalm 78:23-32… Manna and the opened heavens. Verses 23-25… “Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels’ food: he sent them meat to the full” (KJV). We surely need fresh daily bread. Jesus says in John 6 that He is the bread sent from heaven. We are to hear Him. A daily fresh word from Him makes our day. The key for Israel was in the daily gathering of the manna, but they were disobedient and craved flesh. God gave them their desire, but slew them for their sin. Christians must gather in the Word. Psalm 119:11 reads, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
Deuteronomy 28:15-23… Brass heavens. Verse 23… “And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron” (KJV). Have you ever prayed and the heavens never opened? It was like trying to break through a brass ceiling. God teaches that when you do not hearken to His voice, heaven is shut to you. In Psalm 71:12, King David knew about brass heavens when he said, “O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.” Moses said that affliction will overtake you, the harvest is not reaped, and you are vexed in everything you try to do when you do not listen to God and obey.
Matthew 3:16-17… The Holy Spirit and the open heavens. “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (KJV). Water baptism is a symbol of the death of your old life. Repentance and obedience are the key to open heavens. Many people do not have the Holy Spirit active within them because they love the world too much. They refuse to break off from their old lifestyles. The Holy Spirit cannot bless an unrepentant life.
2 Corinthians 12:1-4… Revelation and opened heavens. The heavens opened for Paul and he was caught up into the third heaven. There in the open heaven he was given visions and revelation. You are never the same when this happens. John, Peter, Jacob, Isaiah, and Ezekiel all saw the opened heavens (Revelation 4:1-2, Acts 10:9-11, Genesis 28:12, Isaiah 6:1-4, and Ezekiel 1:1). They had visions of Jesus, visions of God. John was waiting upon God on the isle of Patmos, Peter was on a rooftop waiting upon God in prayer, Jacob was asleep and a dream/vision came that changed his life, Isaiah went to the temple after the death of Uzziah, and Ezekiel was among the captives in Babylon when the heavens opened for him. Waiting upon the Lord is one of the keys to opened heavens. 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 shows that prayer (waiting) opens the windows of heaven. Paul told the Colossian church (Colossians 3:1) to seek those things which are above. “Seek those things which are above” (KJV), or things from heaven. Do you want to hear from God? Look to God and not to earth. “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).
God wants to open up the spiritual realm to His church (Ephesians 1:17). The word “wisdom” as used here refers to the opening of the spiritual realm, to see as the prophets saw (the prophetic realm). We can’t afford to miss out on what God has promised to those who love Him. God has always communicated to His people supernaturally. Seek Him…
