Acts 18:17… “And Gallio cared for none of these things” (KJV).
Gallio was a man who was indifferent towards Christianity… He was indifferent to say the least… He was a political figure, a proconsul of Achaia (v. 12). He rejected the claims of the Jews and had no time to listen to Paul defend his message… He didn’t want to know the truth. He did not care for religion… period. He was a brother to Seneca, the Roman philosopher. The world today is full of people like Gallio… knowledgeable, influential, and politically correct, but spiritually sterile and indifferent to Christianity and Bible truth… One of my Bible names dictionaries says that the name “Gallio” means “one who sucks or one who lives on milk.” The word “indifferent” basically means “having no marked feeling for or against, having no interest or concern, apathetic.” Since the September 11th tragedy… we see a lot of indifference shown towards Christianity… We see “Gallios” on talk shows and news shows… spouting off and denying the claims of Christ and the Bible… We should not be surprised at this because the Bible says that one of the signs of the last days is that “men shall be lovers of their own selves . . . having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof” (2 Timothy 3:2-5, KJV).
They are not indifferent to “form” or an outward show, but reject and refuse practical Christianity… “denying” means rejecting, refusing, and preventing the truth and the power of the gospel from doing its work… Paul also said that in the last days “perilous times shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1). He then lays out in detail some of the signs… Many today who sit in the church have a “form” of Christianity that they live by, but they are spiritually sterile… This is the day to be alert and on fire… This is not the day to have just enough Christianity to hate our enemies but not enough to love one another… Authorities (preachers) will give an account for the disobedience they allow in the lives of those entrusted to their care. Your education and politically correct and indifferent stance doesn’t impress God or the devil… Everyone will one day give an account of their lives to God.
